We Won!!!

E's team won the County 7th Grade Basketball Tourney last night. E is #10. We are a small country middle school and the other teams really harass and make fun of our teams. It was very nice to beat them. They finished the year 13-0. They were proud and had a right to be. They all showed good sportsmanship, not what could be said of the other teams.

I tried and tried to get a decent photo of E shooting, or dribbling but none of them came out (read didn't have a sib hand, head, foot, etc in the way). The best I could do is this photo of her back.

Funny Things They Say

I was informed yesterday that Superman comes from the planet CROUTON! How do you not laugh at that?

Well, the snow they kept harping on was not that big of a deal. We got about 6 inches. It did make for a weekend full of sledding. I just wish it hadn't been below zero! I like being toasty warm too much. We broke down and gave S his birthday present early. He requested a snow board. I was afraid that by next week Murphy's Law would have ordained it be 60 and no snow. He had a great time and both he and C used the board pretty well. I averted my eyes when they started going over the snow ramps the kids always build. They looked so darn old standing on the board. It makes me long for the days when my pulling them around in a sled was enough excitement. At least Mel is still happy with that entertainment. I had to be a mean mommy and tell F absolutely no way was a 3 yo going to try to use the snow board. Poor kid, he spends alot of energy trying to be just like his heros, his big brothers, who he evidently thinks came from the planet Crouton.

Spare Thoughts

* grocery shopping in a snowstorm with 6,3,and 14mo olds is as fun as it sounds, especially if no
one fell asleep in the car like their stupid mom thought they would

* sometimes it's great if everyone's basketball game gets cancelled

* having time to make apple crisp with ice cream is a good thing

* that I am personally to blame for the calculator buttons sticking, the noise made by brothers,
the fact we don't live in a tropical climate and the postponement of basketball games

* you can take 13,000 steps daily and still be 15 pounds overweight

* If I didn't take 13,000 steps daily what would I weigh???

* perhaps I should give up apple crisp and ice cream, nah!

Freudian?

So today, when coming here, I typed thejoy OR six.globspot. I can have joy or six kids, not both? (I will note it was the stand around, wait for the bus, guess we'll fight to kill time section of the day.) Globspot? Oh no, it's about my computer desk isn't it!!! Enough psychoanalyzation for now.

~!~!~!Happy Birthday To Me~!~!~!

Today is my birthday. I'm 42 as my dd keeps reminding me, in a chant, How old are you? 42!, over and over. I remember thinking how old that sounded when I was a teenager. I admit I'm surprised that I don't have any of those aches I remember my parents complaining about. Teeth- good, bones and muscles-good, eyesight-good, hearing-fine. Now that I've taken this inventory I'm waiting for everything to go to h*ll. I even feel like another pregnancy would be fine. Dh, however, has said he doesn't want to buy himself depends while buying the baby diapers. I guess I'll hang on for 15 years and dote on grandbabies. No big celebration here. The kids made cupcakes. I have a basketball game to go to for L and a Cub Scout committee meeting after that. I guess that means I won't be closing a bar down for my big day!

No Excuses

I've just been too lazy to post since I don't really have anything earth shattering to say. The weather has been freaky. (You know it's bad when you resort to talking about the weather.) It was 60 degrees on Wednesday. The kids didn't have school though because snow on the ground and 60 in the air makes really really dense fog. Of course it also caused all the snow to melt and the flooding to begin. Luckily we don't live too close to the river, but the sump pump has been working overtime. Friday the kids were out of school again (by now it was back to about 15 degrees,*sigh*) for semester end. The YMCA had a Kid's Fitness Day so I took them to play basketball and swim along with pool, ping pong, shuffle board and air hockey. It killed three hours for my oldest four and the girl I babysit for. I took the youngest two to the library after running some errands. Today I gave the boys haircuts and took L and myself for a haircut. I could cut hers but it somehow always ends up crooked and she won't let me use the clippers, lol. The boys are much easier. I also had to get new shoes for S. I looked at his feet and relized that the toe was no longer attatched to the sole. Oooops! me: why didn't you mention that? him: oh, I didn't notice either Boys!!! Since I'm finally on the computer unmolested I think I'll update my food blog. If you're really bored check it out. The link is on the side. Mel has decided that my sitting in the computer chair is the time to either scream!!! or climb up on the computer table. Think she's spoiled??? She is a princess, damn it, and don't forget it!!

That Pesky Real Life

No,we have not been without power since Friday (though some in our area have), it's just real life got in the way of computer time. Friday evening dh and I went to some friends house to eat and watch Blue Collar Comedy Tour Rides Again. Yes, we are unschooled rubes with a startling lack of sophistication, but we had a good time. Saturday dh changed oil in the car and went to get his new glasses. I suggested he take S since they wanted as much as our first born son for them. I made sure all got to their basketball practices and then we went sledding. Sunday I taught Sunday school, we went sledding again and L attended her first Daisy girl scout meeting. I wish they remained that easy to impress. She thought it was the coolest thing she ever got to do. Monday I did a bunch of OAMC and the girls had dance class. This morning I went to the dentist. He claimed (do I sound untrusting?) that an old filling was cracked and it needed to be replaced. Dh said if I blew it off and needed a root canal later I could kiss any sympathy good-bye so I went. I now feel like a stroke victim and can't eat because I run the chance of eating my own face. I think that's about it. Nothing earth shattering but time was consumed all the same.

I Told You So

I was right, lots of ice, no power ( or heat, or way to cook, or way to see). Then we had power, then we didn't, then we did, then... you get the idea. That's about it except oh yeah, what Chris said.

Ice Storm and Happy Twelfth Night

We have beeen having freezing rain all morning. I can see the power lines getting lower and lower. I have a feeling we may lose power and/or dh won't be coming home tonight. I got some more wood in just in case I have to use the fireplace. I baked a Twelfth Night cake so we can eat that if the power goes, right? E is supposed to have a baketball game tonight but I am betting it will be canceled, and I won't be surprised if they are released from school early. Tonight we'll have a 12th night/epiphany celebration. We have cake and open a present I've kept back. If it gets less icy we'll chalk the door too.

Matthew 2:1-16
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.
Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.

Catching Up

A brand new year and I'm already behind. Let's see.. to catch up. We spent New Year's Eve at home snacking and playing games (and dh sleeping in the chair). I took E shopping New Year's Day. She shopped very wisely and got sneakers, jeans, pj's, and a shirt for $50. I bought her a pair of khakis marked down to $10 because she needs at least one thing that isn't jeans. New Year's evening my family came for our Christmas. We snacked, had gifts and chatted. The kids played up a storm with their cousin so I think a good time was had by all. Today the kids went back to school :-(. I hate to go back to "real" life. Tonight we have two basketball games. I better get up to speed fast. Here are some pics of New Year's Evening.
